Hyderabad–Bidar Cycling Trip

No idea what’s written on that board, but it was a hell of a day trip covering more than 130 kms.

Route – Hyderabad < Kondapur > NH9 > Zaheerabad > NH4 > Bidar.

Distance – 130 Km. approx..

Time – 05:30 am to 03:00 pm

Fuel – 3 snickers, 4 5stars, 6 bottles of water, 1 biscuit, tea, 2 apples

Punctures – 1

Surly Cross Check was a week old now. During this period I was doing some morning rides around Kondapur. Weekend came and it was time to do what XCheck was suppose to. So I took her out on Saturday morning to go for a century ride, heading towards Bidar.

I was searching internet about weekend gateway, where I can go for a night and come back without much hassle. Then Bidar came in picture, saw couple of riders have done it before and there are some good places to hang around so Bidar was finalised. Checked Google map and note down the routes important points like name of the places, right or left turns etc.

There was not much to pack and carry along. Just a bag with a shirt, trouser, and rain coat. Saddle bag was with a Swiss knife, multi-tool kit, cell phone, puncture repair kit. And a water bottle.

Started at 05:30 in the morning, the idea was to ride there, stay there for a night and ride back. Crossing the city was easy as no one was there early in the morning. The Bike Affair’s team was out riding, they asked me if am joining them, pointed out I was without helmet. Its a easy route with no-nonsense, trucks & busses were as usual in there get-off-the-road-am-bigger-and-faster-than-you kind of attitude. Many times I had to get off the road and ride in potholes. The result was a puncture. I was waiting for a auto for a lift, and then a kind soul told that the puncturewala is about a furlong, walked and he was correct. All the villagers witnessed the repair with a lot of questions what’s the cost? Chinese? how do you came to know about it? where you going? They were amazed to see a different cycle I guess.

Weather can’t be better than this, it was a perfect day to ride. Witnessed some good landscapes, headwind was very strong though. The ride past Zaheerabad is really nice with almost no traffic. But I was damn tired by now, stopping every couple of kms. and that resulted the idea of staying there. So after some brainstorming, talking with friend I decided to return back.

Volvo man was charging 600 bucks for bike only, plus ticket 150 bucks. headed towards govt. bus stand, talked to the driver. 200 bucks, XCheck on roof of the bus and at 08:00 o'clock I was off to Hyderabad.

Again 5 km of cycling back home and reached home @ midnight, without food.

XCheck is a great ride, handling is nice. Trucks speeding crossing the white line forcing me to go off-road.

Over the weeks have seen the Charminar, Chaumahalla place, Hussain Sagar, Birla mandir, monda market, mmts ride, paradise biryani, Durgam Cheruvu and best of it I got my sweet ride, in which already have done over century during Bidar trip.
